Completed in January 2023, the purpose of this project was to create a system for standardizing user guides across all Walmart private brands. Components of this project include: a collection of InDesign and Illustrator templates, several interactive checklists, a custom-designed icon library, and a series of training materials created for all involved in the process. Walmart suppliers will utilize templates, tools, and resources to make visually and functionally consistent guides which results in an improved customer experience.
Serving as the creative lead for the team, I was responsible for the visual consistency of all materials. Additionally, I brought forward several key innovations that lead to the system’s success. This project required the ability to think critically from the user’s perspective and consider the different types of users involved and the varied levels of support they may require. In doing so, I successfully created both written and visual content for the foundational step-by-step document that teaches suppliers to create effective guides.
Designing this system required heavy consideration of UX and how users will interact and perceive each piece of the process. Ensuring users can easily navigate the process impacts the success of the entire initiative.
The system includes custom designed icons and a step-by-step instructional document on creating product illustrations which required a high level of software knowledge.
A key part of the process included internal user testing as well as active feedback following a soft-launch of the new system. Several iterations of the system were executed utilizing feedback from Walmart Brand Managers and suppliers.
Not only did we design the new on-brand user guides following the Walmart brand standards, but also ensured visual consistency across all system components including a custom icon library. The system also required creating new infographics and roadmaps to easily convey the process to all those involved.
